Effective June 8, 2026
The short version: FilingScout does not collect, sell, or share your personal information, and it has no servers or accounts of its own. The only requests it makes are to the SEC to run your searches and open filings.
This policy explains how the FilingScout browser extension ("FilingScout," "we," "us") handles information. FilingScout is a product of Whetstone. We built FilingScout to be private by default, and this policy describes exactly what that means.
Nothing. FilingScout does not collect personal data. We do not have a server, a database, or a user account system, so there is nowhere for your data to be sent and no way for us to see how you use the extension. We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, or third-party trackers of any kind.
When you run a search, FilingScout sends your search terms and filters directly to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's free public full-text search system (efts.sec.gov and www.sec.gov). This is the same thing that happens when you type into the SEC's own EDGAR search page. These requests go from your browser straight to the SEC; they do not pass through us, and we never see them.
As required by the SEC's fair-access policy, those requests include a standard identifying header containing the extension name and a contact email address. This is sent only to the SEC, only to identify the software making the request, and is the same for every user.
FilingScout uses your browser's local storage to remember small things — your recent and saved searches, a cached copy of the SEC's public ticker list (to resolve company symbols), and your settings. This information:
Any CSV you export is saved directly to your computer's downloads folder by your browser. We never receive a copy.
FilingScout does not request access to your browsing history, your other tabs, your files, your location, your camera or microphone, or any accounts.
The only external service FilingScout contacts is the SEC's public EDGAR system. Your use of SEC.gov is governed by the SEC's own website policies.
We do not operate a server of our own, and we share no data with any advertiser, data broker, or analytics provider.
FilingScout is a general-purpose financial research tool and is not directed to children under 13. Because we collect no personal information from anyone, we collect none from children.
If FilingScout changes how data is handled, we will update this policy and revise the effective date above before those changes take effect.
